New Line Up

As part of our 2011 economically driven refresh we would like to welcome two new members of the team.

These come in the shape of two super efficient Citroen Nemo Vans

These boys will be replacing our current express delivery fleet in a bid to cut our carbon footprint and save a few pennies that we can pass on to our customers

At up to 80mpg these vans are the most economical in their class and with the 2008 van of the year award the certainly were exactly what we were looking for

Are 2D too expensive and inefficient?

Trevor from Micatron Lighting Innovations popped in for a visit yesterday with a really solid looking 2D retrofit LED luminaire.

The fitting is perfect for any 2D utility application. Utilizing a 4 pin cap the self ballasted 12w LED Board more than halves the wattage of its intended predecessor.

The Product was released in October 2009 and has developed a great reputation since. Available as a stand alone Lamp or comes complete with fitting and diffuser at an extra cost. See Micatron's product breakdown below for more information.

3M one-part joint bodies and terminations have built-in stress control, semi-conducting and insulation layers. 3M Cold Shrink components are pre-stretched on a spiral core, which is removed by hand. The live memory action shrinks the component to give a reliable and durable seal.

Vision 600 Series Now Available

Vision Ct600 32w & Ct612 64w Ceiling Tile Retrofits are now available for purchase exclusively at Snapfast. After going back to the drawing board after initial prototype testing, Vision have increased the size of LED and managed to squeeze out 100% lumen output of a traditional 4x18w and 4x36w ceiling tile installation. because of the Efficiency of the new CREE 1w 110 LED Vision have also managed to half the wattage of the traditional tile fitting, meaning 50% reduction on C02 and electricity bills.

Prototype Production

Prototypes for the Vision Flex SGS32w and Flex Poise 32w are currently being readied. The boys at Vision have settled there paper designs and feel ready to take on the challenge of a working model.

Two Prototypes of each product shall be developed. One for mass production, and the other to tour the country and give your eyes a feast.

labour of Love...

Apartment 20

For its owners, Apartment 20 was a labour of love, hate, sweat and tears. As with all renovation projects, you have to put the work in to get results, and in this case, the juice is certainly worth the squeeze. Conceptually the brief was simple: Practical, low loss, low emission, low maintenance living. That is where Snapfast came in....

Apartment 20 was initially running at well over 1500w of lighting. Working with the Interior designers, using Vision & CREE LED as consultants, we came up with a solution that would reduce the wattage to 189w (circuit watts).

At 1000 square feet, the designers were concerned that such a significant drop in wattage would sacrifice light output. Although we were confident this would not be the case, a test was conducted using a run of GU10 fittings. Using Vision 5w and standard 50w lamps alongside one another there was seen to be no depreciation in light output from one fitting to the next. With everyone on board the decision to switch was simple.

Apartment 20 is now available for viewing, to show home owners and builders alike that LED lighting systems work efficiently and integrate easily with current household fittings and fixtures.

Low efficiency phase out...

As a result of the global focus on energy efficiency and the drive to reduce CO2 emissions, the European Union has set out a plan to restrict the sale of lamps identified as being inefficient. The phase out began in September 2009 with the restriction of the sale of all 100W and above GLS, frosted incandescent and non-clear halogen lamps. From then on, manufacturers cannot produce or legally sell them and wholesalers can only fulfil existing orders until their stock runs out.

Each year more lamps will be phased out. The decision to switch consumers to more energy efficient alternatives is expected to reduce European energy consumption for domestic lighting by 30 per cent, thereby preventing the release of 23 million tons of CO2 emissions per year.

Which lamps are being phased out?

All frosted incandescent and non-clear halogen lamps from September 2009

T8 halo basic fluorescent tubes by 2010

All clear incandescent lamps (15W-100W) by September 2012

T12 fluorescent tubes by 2012

All clear halogen lamps (Class D&E) by September 2013 and Class C by 2016

Any decision on the phasing out of directional incandescent (reflector lamps) and halogen lamps were made at the end of 2009.

Introducing the Vision Jet

The Jet is the latest LED solution from Visions successful Flex Series. Designed to replace tungsten halogen floodlamps mounted over road crossings.

60 CREE 1w LED's mounted in two IP67 adjustable housings provide an output to surpass a traditional 500w tungsten halogen fitting. Allthough the Jet is designed to replace road crossing luminaires, it can also be applied to many other scenarios where a tungsten halogen or SON-E floodlight is used.

From 500w down to 60w means the Jet has almost 10 times less energy consumption than its intended predecessor.
